REVOLUTIONS, their most groundbreaking album yet, mixes the ebullience of old hip-hop songs with gritty rock riffs and eclectic sonic clips to create a stunning variety of ingenious, tightly wrought tracks, the X-men redefine DJ greatness once again. Tracks include "The Countdown Part 2," "Ill Bill," and "Get with It" Featuring Cypress Hill.

Reviews:

"The X-ecutioners were instrumental in the mid-90s resurrection of the DJ as artiste, second only to the Invisibl Skratch Piklz when it came to wrist-spraining, turntable-mangling feats of DJ derring-do. Their combination of Steve Vai-style virtuoso shredding, ADD pop cultural quotation, and wildstyle structures were still recognizably ""hip-hop,"" but also ""avant"" enough to make the art world get happy with the postmodern quotes. Like much of that the era, ""turntablism"" now seems dated: abandoned by a fickle press, it devolved into an even more arcane science-cum-religion. After nu-metal revived the turntable as a hip-hop affectation to go along with the terrible rapping, the X-ecutioners hooked up with Linkin Park in a cred-for-commercial-appeal prisoner exchange. On Revolutions ('cause records like, turn around, you know?), the boys take this ""we really liked metal all along, honest"" approach to the next level, hooking up with Rob Zombie. ""Collaborating"" is too strong a word-they chopped up bits of ""More Human Than Human"" and Zombie e-mailed his new backing vocals. (Puffy did this all way better on the ""All About the Benjamins"" rock remix anyway.) In addition to this undead track there's plenty more Halloween-style make-believe here: a parade of DJ tricks and guest rappers masquerading as songs, and a group of former hip-hop masters all decked out as stumblebums for the MTV market.
