Concert and Events

At Armadillo we are constantly booking bands to play in-store shows. We host a wide variety of musicians from local solo singer/songwriters to more well known bands such as the great Typhoon (they have eleven members!). We try to list all of our upcoming shows here as well as a few highlights of some past in-stores. If interested in playing at Armadillo Music please feel free to send us an email at armadillomusic@gmail.com.

In addition to hosting our own shows, we are happy to be supporters of the many local live music events that happen in our town. From events like the Davis Music festival, Thursday Live!, Davis Live Music Collective shows, and the plethora of live free shows at the local bars, we try and keep you up to date on all of them!

J Mick In- Store Show- Friday, May 19th, 2017 @ 5:30pm

J Mick is reprising his masterful guitar playing- don’t miss it!

More about the guitar wizard:

“J Mick is a lifelong guitarist and songwriter from Kentucky, having live in Davis and Sacramento for 7 years. His mom taught piano but he doesn’t like those things like he loves guitar.
After several hitch-hiking trips across India and South America and experiencing a lot of unusualness that make him not “fit in” very well in the U.S. (as well as world music and eastern scales that work well in jazz improvisation), lately he has decided he is most at home in the rock and roll he learned on bus rides to school as a kid.
A performance of rock and roll Mick-style is inevitably expected, however, to draw from the far-away places and sounds where he rode in train cars full of lepers, was nearly decapitated by an Indian cow, and narrowly escaped a kidnapping.
He is in the studio these days with producer Mr. David Houston of Sacramento, with a first album expected completion by his Leo-cusp birthday.
He is also undoubtedly the dominant table tennis force in Yolo County, and is willing to put his money on this at City Hall Tavern most Thursday nights, across the street from Armadillo Music.
Thank you!!”
– J Mick
So now you have to check him out, if only to ask about how he almost was decapitated by an Indian cow…  but stay for the music, too. Bring your friends, and let’s have a party!
*Although the video below is probably not indicative to the rock and roll he’s currently playing, it’s a great example (and a good original song) of what he can do.

Your Local Cemetery In- Store Show – Friday, May 5th, 2017 at 6:30pm

Join us for a free show from indie rock/alternative Your Local Cemetery. I’ll let them do the talking:

“One thing we’ve always valued in music is honesty in both song writing and sound. All of the artists we look up to are very open about situations they’ve gone through in life and have used music as an outlet to help themselves as well as others. For us, making music is a way of processing our thoughts and emotions in an attempt to better understand ourselves. We also hope that our music will be able to help others connect with things they might be feeling in order to give them a sense of comfort. Some artists that have done this for us, and inspired us to start making music include: Modern Baseball, Cayetana, Sorority Noise, Pvris and Harmony Woods. Each of us have our own taste in music that we draw inspiration from, which gives each member a distinct sound when writing.
With all of that said, we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Despite some of our songs being highly emotional, at the end of the day music is largely about bringing people together to share good times and make the world a better place.”

Come and hang out, and tell your friends!

Auburn Road In- Store Show – Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 @ 6:00pm

Holy smokes, this will be one awesomely busy day. April 22nd is Record Store Day, a nation- wide event to celebrate independent record stores, and the revitalized vinyl industry. It also happens to be Picnic Day in Davis, a singular event that is huge for the city. Helping to bring the excitement to fever- pitch: the talented trio of country/pop group Auburn Road.

More about them here:

Every small town in America holds a thousand stories. From the Northeast and South through the Heartland to the West Coast: a set of values remains commonplace, bound together by faith, family, friendship and love. Enter country pop trio Auburn Road— Alicia Paulson, Paxton Martin and Kristen Brown—three multi-talented teen vocalists who hold these revered country music principles close to their hearts. Performing together in community vocal groups since the age of eight, the lifelong friends bonded over musical influences like The Dixie Chicks, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift while crafting their own undeniable sound. Auburn Road may hail from the suburbs of Sacramento, but their music truly reflects the ethos of Nashville through their infectious style, sass and spirit.”

After a fun day of picking up some cool records, and watching various animals race against each other for bragging rights, come check out this talented group, and bring your friends along!

I will be playing at Picnic Day April 22nd at 2:30 at the ARC stage. Ocean Party In- Store Show- Saturday, March 25th, 2017

These Australians showed up to haunt our Halloween party a couple of years ago, and now stateside they want to pick up where they left off. Playing an infectious brand of sparkling pop/rock, it won’t be long before songs get stuck inside your head, but can’t exactly recall where they came from, as if from a sugarplum dream. They rock, and your socks will be knocked off. It’s all going down on Saturday, March 25th, 2017 at 6:30pm. As always, bring some drinks and a friend, or some friends and a drink. We’re all about moderation, well, it’s okay in some instances.
